The beauty of pre-owned exclusive watches

It isn’t hard to convince many people of the sheer beauty and magnetism of prestige watches such as those by Cartier, Rolex, Omega, Breitling and IWC etc. What is sometimes a matter for debate is whether or not to purchase a new or pre-owned watch.

So, what are the considerations?

Financial

As you may expect with exclusivity and prestige brands such as Tag or other luxury brands, you may expect exclusive prices.

Yet a fully serviced and excellent condition pre-owned luxury watch may cost you significantly less than one that is brand new and off the shelf.

Being practical, for some of us, this may be a cost-effective (and perhaps only) method of securing such a watch.

Investment and depreciation

As a rule, prestige watch brands hold their appeal and therefore their values, well over time. Some may even increase in value over the years.

Yet a brand new watch may suffer some initial depreciation the moment you first purchase it. By purchasing pre-owned watches, you are allowing someone else to take the hit of that depreciation for you.

Forward view

Even with the most prestigious makers, some models become classic collectors’ pieces rather faster than others.

It isn’t always easy to predict which models, when new, will rapidly make that all-important transition to classic status. By contrast, if you’re purchasing a much-loved piece, you may already be able to see evidence of the impact it is making in the market place and perhaps to more easily identify the models that are most likely to appreciate in value over time.

Romance

Although some people always prefer new items where possible, some others may prefer the sheer romantic speculation that sometimes comes with a pre-owned luxury item.

It may be interesting to wonder just what famous wrist may have previously worn it and where (in fact, some specialist dealers may even be able to supply some information of that type).

Ultimately of course, it is up to you. Yet the attractions of pre-owned watches may make the decision a little easier for some!
